![]() So far Marvel has confirmed partnerships with Hasbro, Gentle Giant, Upper Deck, Funko, and Hot Topic. It sounds like there will be plenty of Secret Wars-branded merchandise this time too. That comic was accompanied by a Secret Wars action figure line from Mattel (the first time many of Marvel's characters had been given the toy treatment). But now, I at least had the mediocre confidence of having an internship under my belt, of being hired on part time as the team’s Public Relations Assistant Coordinator. This time last year, I had been an anxious mess - not that I didn’t still shake like a leaf any time I tried to order a six-foot-three football player around. Fall was whispering on the cool breeze, the faint scent of apples and fresh turf promising another exciting year for the NBU Rebels. The summer sun was high and bright in the sky, warm on my skin as I bounced across the North Boston University football field with my iPad in tow, checking off the list of players I needed to pull over for interviews after the first day of fall camp. It was on the most beautiful day that I fell victim to Clay Johnson’s post-breakup meltdown. The book was made into an unwatchable 1980 feature film starring Jason Robards. Pitt is tasked with bringing the remains of the great ship back to the surface in one piece, but as success draws nearer, dark forces are closing in. The book, published long before Robert Ballard discovered the real resting place of the Titanic, was an unqualified success, in part because interest in the Titanic disaster never wanes. He may never have become so popular if not for “Raise the Titanic,” a 1976 novel that introduced most readers to Pitt and launched Cussler's career. These days, Cussler's portrayals of chivalry seem outdated and perhaps offensive, but he continues to churn out books, maintaining a consistent presence on the best-seller lists. He has written or co-authored 62 books, many of them thrillers focusing on Dirk Pitt, a darkly handsome, unstoppable hero who is something like an unlicensed James Bond. By now, readers know what to expect from Clive Cussler. ![]() |
